Wheeler and Woolsey or Churchill?
Over Christmas when I had the flu, I watched a number of the films by the great comedy team of Wheeler and Woolsey. One of my favorites was "Peach-O-Reno," in which Wheeler and Woolsey play Reno divorce lawyers.
At one point during the movie, the wife of a man getting a divorce says something like, "If we don't get a divorce, I'll give you poison," to which the man replies, "If we don't get a divorce, I'll take it." This, of course, recalls the famous exchange between Winston Churchill and Lady Astor. But, I was wondering, since "Peach-O-Reno" was released in 1931, did they steal the witticism from Winston Churchill, or was it the other way around?
