A Neighborhood Mystery
I've been wondering about old posts that are scattered around my neighborhood.
They are made of concrete and are pyramidal at the top, and they are always found on the corner, like this one at the corner of Walnut and Lilac a block from my house:
Which on closer inspection appears to be some sort of coupling device. This plate always faces away from the street:
These posts are not an original feature of the neighborhood, which was built in 1916. Imprinted into the side of the post is the year 1946:
So who can tell me what these posts are and what their purpose was?
