Woody Plants I: Drimys winteri


I bought this Drimys winteri at Berkeley Horticultural.  It's a slender tree from the coastal rainforests of Chile.  It has leaves that are fragrant when crushed and white flowers.   I read that if it's planted in the shade it grows more like a tree than a bush, so I planted it along my back fence between the lemon tree and the apple tree.  It's shaded by my neighbor's bamboo, but I hope it will soon outgrow that.

The picture below is dark, but if you look closely, you can see Morgan patrolling our border, watching out for any squirrels trying to make an illegal entry:
