Woody Plants: Ilex Aquifolium 'Ferox Argentea'
Merry Christmas!
This silver hedgehog holly is one of the newest additions to my front yard. The Hillier Guide says it has a "very effective combination of rich purple twigs and leaves with creamy white margins and spines." But Dirr, in the Manual of Woody Landscape Plants, remarks, "To me not a particularly lovely plant."
As you can see from the picture, it gets its name from the numerous spines that cover the leaves. I took this picture yesterday, right after a heavy rain.
